Dorothy Must Die

Dorothy Must Die
By Daniella Paige

Your mission:
REMOVE the tin woodman’s heart.
TAKE the scarecrow’s brain.
TAKE the lion’s courage.
And then-DOROTHY MUST DIE.
Only you can make Oz a free land again.
I’ve waited for this book to arrive long time ago, and now, I finished it!!! It’s great!!! I just need to get my hand on the sequel as soon as I arrive in New York! (Although…I’ve seen reviews that the sequel isn’t as good as the first one. But…who cares? I just need more Dorothy and her friends and Amy!!!) I’ve read the original Dorothy story years ago and…well…it’s not my favorite. But it’s good! And then the movie…several movies. I never watched the original one…you know, the one with “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” but I’ve watched OZ, the one filmed by Disney. I think I watched it on the plane…since I don’t have a lot of memory about it. (Uh…I should pick it up again…should I?) However, as you might notice…I’ve watched Once Upon a Time!!! And who appeared in Season 3? Zelaena! The Wicked Witch of West. Also…Glinda and Dorothy…appeared. And that successfully draw my interest about OZ. so…after reading this book? I decided to read the entire OZ story when I arrive New York!!!! (There’re so many bookish things to do when I arrive NYC!!! It’s a great thing that I have about a month…right? But I think it’ll never be enough.)

I DIDN’T ASK FOR ANY OF THIS.

I DIDN’T ASK TO BE SOME KIND OF HERO.

But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?
Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for act of rebellion. There’s still a yellow brick road—but even that’s crumbling.

WHAT HAPPENED?

DOROTHY.

They say she found a way to come back to Oz.
They say she seized the power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.
MY NAME IS AMY GUMM—AND I’M THE OTHER GIRL FROM KANSAS.
I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I’ve been trained to fight.
AND I HAVE A MISSION.

So…the story isn’t about Dorothy…not exactly. The main character is Amy…another miserable from Kansas…who turns out to have a same life as Veronica from Doon. Her high school is suck…her life? Terrible. At least Veronica has a house to life…I don’t even know what thing did Amy live in…trailer? That’s horrible. And as you might guess…every protagonist in Kansas must face tornado…haha…I know.  (It’s just like every trouble happens to the leading role. As if the center of the world is also the person. And…this has nothing to do with our book!) She was transported to Oz!!! A new horrible place—no longer beautiful, no longer dreamy, no longer peace. During her way to find out everything…she was captured by Tin Woodman and his army. So…she met Dorothy…who turns out to be a spoil little princess, only wants more power and ruins Oz.

I really enjoy this story! Much more than I’ve expected. The plots are well written, not to mention the twists and ups and downs and all of them! I love how Amy and Nox relationship becomes, although it only exists…like…third second? But I really hope I’ll read more about them…but…I don’t think will work out really well…at least for now. (Hand cross~) And I like how all the wicked witched come together to defeat Dorothy. The Revolutionary Order of the Wicked! Order!!! (Why do I think about Harry Potter? The Order of Phoenix!!!)

Haha…back to Dorothy Must Die. The ROW (Just give it a short name…) opens Amy’s potential, and makes her believe herself. But mark my words…even ROW can’t be trusted. Yes, that’s right…the story keeps telling you that no one can be trusted. Doesn’t that sound familiar? It seems that no one can be trusted in every book. So…the world is so dark. I get that. But there are still friendships in it. Everything seems to turn against Amy at first, but after she joined the Order, things gradually became…well…better? Although her roads are still long…and I’ve seen the sequels…I’m so excited now.

So…are you interested in Dorothy Must Die now? I’m so ready for the second book…as soon as my wallet stops crying.
