The Ranger's Apprentice : The Ruin of Gorlan (The Ranger's ApprenticeSeries 1)

The Ranger’s Apprentice: The Ruin of Gorlan
By John Flanagan
What book is one of my favorite series besides…the answer is THE RANGER’S APPRENTICE!!! This series is so awesome that I’ve read it for about 5 to 10 times. I can say that I maybe just love it a little bit less than Harry Potter! It must become a movie!!! (Well…although some producer had contact the author before…but…nothing happen for so many year…so sad…) The Ruin of Gorlan is so amazing that I fell in love it almost immediately. So…let’s read the summery!
They have always scared him in the past — the Rangers, with their dark cloaks and shadowy ways. The villagers believe the Rangers practice magic that makes them invisible to ordinary people. And now 15-year-old Will, always small for his age, has been chosen as a Ranger's apprentice. What he doesn't yet realize is that the Rangers are the protectors of the kingdom. Highly trained in the skills of battle and surveillance, they fight the battles before the battles reach the people. And as Will is about to learn, there is a large battle brewing. The exiled Morgarath, Lord of the Mountains of Rain and Night, is gathering his forces for an attack on the kingdom. This time, he will not be denied....
The Ranger’s Apprentice series contains friendship, adventure, laughter…so many good reasons that you should read this book! Will was one of the orphans in Redmont Castle, but he was selected as Halt’s apprentice, which he would become a ranger. Rangers were one the most powerful people in the country. It’s said that they were wizards, since they appeared out of nowhere and have the ability to be invisible. They were one of the most fearsome and respective people in the kingdom, because they fight for the king, the country, the people, and besides that, their archery were incomparable. They listened to no one but the king, had their own society, and they lived alone. Are you afraid now? Be careful, the most legendary ranger was here!!! Halt was the legendary ranger that saved the entire kingdom from Morgarath, and now, he was going to train the most potential ranger of all time! Will!!! Yeah!!! Three cheers for them!!! But the danger was coming, Morgarath was about to rise again, and this time, he was gonna destroy everything they love and seize for the throne.
Now…let’s talk about the wonderful, excellent characters! Will, our leading character. As I mentioned above, he was an orphan, in order to succeed, he must be chosen by one of the master. At first, Will’s first choice was being a knight, like his unknown father. But he was too thin, too short to become one, and for his mischievous behavior, none of the master regarded him as a possible apprentice. Then he was chosen by Halt and became the ranger’s apprentice…but the selection must save for you to read, it was so fun to read that part! During his training, Will gradually accept his position as a ranger and fell in love with it. Will required all the ranger’s quality: smart, able to hide himself, and most important of all, he had thousands of questions. Why would that be a great quality? Go and ask Halt!!! I’m not going to tell you!!! You must discover the fun yourselves! And the next one is…Halt! The most legendary ranger of all time! He was a Gloomy Gus all the time...Ahh!!! I saw Halt’s arrow was shooting at me…I’m going to run away!!! (If running away is possible…which is…he never missed) Well…Halt was much like that, but he was also the greatest teacher and companion. Everything he did has his reason and he was never wrong. But what’s funny is that since he was the legendary hero, most people pictured him as a tall, powerful hero. However, when you first saw him, he was shorter than the average. And why was that? You’ll know once you read it. Horace, the one who always bullied Will in the Redmont Castle. He was selected as a warrior, and was trained to become a knight. He was a horrible guy…but he had his trouble too. After one incident…he and Will…Shh!!! What I can tell you is that he had a lot of potential. That’s all. While…there are still other characters you might be introduced in the book, but they weren’t so important during the first book…so I’ll save it for other review!
This book is such a great book that everyone should read it. It was not only funny, but also heart touching. Many of their relationship can touch you and you’ll learn a lot from them. Best of all, unlike those superheroes which were often so handsome or powerful, tall, Will was none of them. But he showed his virtues and prove himself worthy. You’ll definitely regret if you miss this wonderful book!
